The Advanced Biomedical Scientist position in Microbiology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals involves overseeing the serology and molecular laboratory. The role, which will transition to a new state-of-the-art facility at St James University Hospital in 2023, emphasises collaboration with other West Yorkshire trusts and the implementation of a Managed Service Contract. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing molecular tests for emerging pathogens, supervising staff, ensuring quality management, and contributing to the department's continuous service improvement, including management of outbreaks and day-to-day operations.

Candidates are expected to hold HCPC registration, a Biomedical Science degree (or equivalent), and an MSc with a microbiology specialty. Significant experience in molecular microbiology, particularly with both commercial and laboratory-developed tests, is required. The role necessitates a high level of autonomy, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively within a team environment, supporting patient diagnosis and care.
